What exactly is ‘rape’? According to WebMD, rape “is when sexual intercourse is non-consensual (not agreed upon), or a person forces another person to have sex against his or her will."

I need to stress out certain phrases that really put this action into perspective as an abuse of the human life.

‘Non-consensual' is an indisputable characteristic of what rape is and an abuse. If the lady/guy says no, I see no reason a person in the right frame of mind should neglect or dismiss the approval of the opposite sex. And compounding this is when the victim is deprived of this abused life. Some might say that the perpetrators are innocent until it's proven that there was no consent but I have a word for them:

“They are all innocent until proven guilty. But not me. I am a liar until I am proven“  - Louise O’Neill.

Cases that show this gruesome aspect of certain disturbed and deranged individuals are those which took place on the “27th of May to Vera Uwaila Omozua and Barakat, a student of Akinyele area of Ibadan, who was allegedly raped and killed on the 2nd of June this year.”

‘Forces against his/her will’ is another phrase that shows the nature of how the action of rape constitutes an abuse to the life of said victims and their loved ones. I see no certification that empowers a person to disregard the will of the victims.
Jessica Valenti once said and I quote:  “Now should we treat women as independent agents, responsible for themselves?  Of course, but being responsible has nothing with being raped. Women don’t get raped because they weren’t careful enough, women get raped because someone raped them”.

So, the point I am trying to drive across to those reading this is that life is precious, let us not abuse it with the act of rape. I leave you with this final quote;

“What had human being become, did war make us evil or just activate an evil already lurking within us” -By Rita Sepetys.

Effect of rape on victims:

👉Serious injuries
👉Risk of pregnancy (females)
👉Sexually transmitted disease
👉Suicidal possibility
👉Long term mental health problem
👉Death etc.

Reasons for rape:
Rapists indulge in inhumane acts for their selfish interests, mental disorder, indecent dressing, revenge/vengeance, armed conflicts/war etc. Yet, no amount of excuse is worth the inhumane act.

How can you help a rape victim?

👉Immediate health treatment should be given
👉Do not condemn or stigmatise the victim(s)
👉Expose them to psychotherapy
👉Exhort and counsel them with word of hope
👉Embrace and give them reasons to live
👉Admonish the community to be more friendly with victim
👉Educate people on the effects of rape in our societies.

Rape is a CRIME
Rape is Abuse to RIGHT TO LIFE
