Why is Vaccination Necessary in Pets?

Dog Health

Vaccines are very important as they provide protection to prevent many diseases that affect pets. Vaccination of pets is among the preventive methods that are absolutely necessary to provide them with a long and healthy life, and if it is done, it makes a healthy life possible. A different vaccine should be given for each disease, and vaccines called mixed vaccines should be given for some disease groups. Regular veterinary check-ups and vaccinations are necessary for the quality of life and health of every pet. Moreover, some vaccinations are required by law.

Understanding How the Vaccine Works

Vaccines prepare the body’s immune system for invasion by disease-causing organisms. Vaccines contain antigens. These antigens are very similar to disease-causing organisms but do not cause disease. When the vaccine is given, the immune system is mildly stimulated. Then, when the disease itself occurs in the vaccine, the immune system recognizes the situation and starts to fight. However, the disease is also milder. Vaccinations are very important for keeping pets healthy. There is an understanding among the public that not every pet should be vaccinated. However, this is not true. It is necessary to determine the most appropriate vaccination schedule for the pet together with the veterinarian. The pet’s age, health history, environment, travel habits and lifestyle should be taken into account to create the most appropriate schedule. There are certain vaccinations that must be done for all pets.

When Should Vaccines Be Made?

There are certain periods during which some vaccines can be administered. Some vaccines also need to be repeated at certain times. The timing of the vaccination depends on the type of vaccination, the age of the animal, health history, environment and lifestyle. Puppies and kittens get some antibodies from breast milk. Kittens and dogs should be vaccinated for the first time at 6-8 weeks of age. Kittens and dogs need to have some vaccinations at certain time intervals. The final dose is administered when kittens or dogs are 16 weeks old. On the other hand, some vaccinations of adult dogs should be done every year, while some vaccinations should be done within 3-4 years. A similar situation applies to adult cats. Adult cats should have some vaccinations every year or two. Important vaccinations, such as the parasite vaccine, should be administered approximately every three months. Otherwise, the parasite problem can be seriously disturbing.
